The Places You Love Alliance (PYL) was founded in 2012 in response to Government plans to unwind our national nature protection laws. Now we have expanded our ambition, looking to galvanise the nature-loving Australian community to stand up for strong new nature laws needed to protect our environment and reverse the extinction crisis.
PYL has over 60 members including WWF-Australia, The Wilderness Society, Australian Conservation Foundation, Birdlife Australia, Humane Society International, Environmental Justice Australia and many conservation councils and local groups around the country. The Environmental Defenders Office provides legal and technical support to the Alliance.
For many decades we have demanded governments and companies do their best to look after these incredible natural assets. In fact, Australia has a strong history of fighting to protect natural wonders – from the Franklin Dam, to Kakadu National Park and everywhere in between.
However, we are now in a political period where the protection of nature is being threatened. Governments are reversing hard-fought gains while resource exploitation redefines the historical scale and scope of environmental harm.
We worked closely with world-leading legal and policy experts to reimagine a new generation of national environment laws that will protect and restore our natural environment, strengthen our democracy and support community involvement.
It’s time for all of us to stand together and stop the roll-back of environmental protections and stand up for a new generation of national environment laws.
Places You Love is proudly supported by Judy Glick, a sub-fund of Australian Communities Foundation.
